Hello there! It’s been a while, for which I apologise.
As most of you know, I was gallivanting around L.A. for half of April and most of May, and have been prepping for forthcoming things (more on this!), and writing forthcoming newsletters since my very reluctant return. I wanted to do a little self-promotion this week, and try to sell you lovely people on some exciting things I have in the works:
Antler Queens!
Tomorrow I will be speaking about Lottie, women Surrealists, and Antler Queens at the BAFTSS Horror Studies No Return: A Yellowjackets Symposium! It’s a virtual event (9 am - 5 pm BST, I’m speaking around 11.20 am) and most of the talks will be recorded if you cannot watch live, or can only join for some of the day. I’m sure most of you loved Yellowjackets as much as myself, so I hope you can join us!
Schiap’s Sartorial Astrology!
On Wednesday 29th June I’m making my (virtual) debut at Vicktor Wynd’s last Tuesday Society with an illustrated lecture on Schiaparelli’s Zodiac Collection (8:00 pm - 9:30 pm BST)! I have given variations of this talk in the past, but I am thrilled to be speaking, live, for such a brilliantly interesting museum. Tickets are available now, and recipients will receive a digital link if you are unable to watch live. Please buy a ticket and ask nice questions! Or just say hi!
Solitary Surrealism!
They cannot keep me away! I’ll be back again (digitally) at The Last Tuesday Society on Wednesday 27th July (8:00 pm - 9:30 pm BST) with my illustrated lecture on Gertrude Abercrombie’s Solitary Surrealism. I thought a lot about Abercrombie during the pandemic, and wrote about her here, so this will be a lovely excuse to get my teeth into her work a little bit more for a curious audience. Tickets are available here and once again you will be mailed a link to the lecture should you miss it live. Please join, say hi, give compliments, etc.
L.A. Noir!
And finally, I have written an essay for this delicious Indicator Series boxset! Pre-order Universal Noir #1 now (release date 19 September 2022) and you can read my essay on Joseph M. Newman’s Abandoned (1949) alongside other brilliant essays and fantastic extras courtesy of those fine folks at Powerhouse Films. Click the link, you know you want to.
While I am here, I set up the link so you can get take advantage of a 7 day free trial to my paywalled pieces. Hopefully I’ll have some more exciting things to announce soon, but I’ll see you back here next week for the free subscribers essay. If you enjoyed and don’t want to subscribe, Tips are always welcome (either on Ko-Fi or Patreon), or say hi on Twitter. As always, thank you for reading, and see you next time!
