Before the year ends, I want to thank everyone who has read this newsletter and stuck with me during the silent spells and gaps. There is plenty more to come - especially as I have been playing with ideas and projects behind the scenes - and I look forward to bringing you more feminist-surrealist inspired dispatches in the new year, as well as more meaty content for my paying subscribers.
In 2024 I had the honour of contributing essays for two Blu-ray releases (with another to be announced in the new year) and, I hope, more to come. I also had the tremendous fun of introducing eight films and hosting a Q&A with the brilliant Alice Lowe - for her wonderful feminist time travel odyssey Timestalker - at my beloved Midlands Arts Centre. I look forward to being back behind the mic next year for various things, and I plan to do more non-newsletter film writing on my blog.
So, I shall leave you with Meret Oppenheim’s Méret Oppenheim’s New Stars (Neue Sterne) (1977–82) and the New Year’s Eve toast of all toasts courtesy of the wonderful Patricia Highsmith: “My New Year's Toast: to all the devils, lusts, passions, greeds, envys, loves, hates, strange desires, enemies ghostly and real, the army of memories, with which I do battle - may they never give me peace.”
Wishing you all a healthy, happy new year, and I look forward to seeing you in 2025.
