Star Dancer
I had intended to write so much this December! But between my temp job, planning for Christmas, life, and the idle week between Christmas and the new year, it’s suddenly the day before New Year’s Eve and the month has passed by in the blink of an eye. But worry not - I will be back next year with more regular fair for both my free and paying subs here (and I remain indebted to those of you who continue to read my work), as well as pottering around on a new blog called Observatory Time. I feel Blogger - Blogspot? - will be a good way to put out smaller pieces as well as potentially more film-based writing (although film writing will appear here too), and generally play around with ideas that I don’t deem ready for the newsletter, or too short, or just use to noodle around on a much more casual basis.
So, until next year, I will leave you with Marcel Mariën’s Star Dancer (1991) and Lucille Clifton’s incredible poem ‘i am running into a new year.’
And [New Year’s Eve Edit]: Patricia Highsmith’s epic verse:
I hope we all dance our way into the new year, leave behind what isn’t working, usher in the good, and continue to seek and find kindness, safety, and peace wherever and wherever we can. And to all the devil’s and lusts. See you in 2024.
