In 1943, Man Ray and Juliet Browner, his then-partner and later wife, made an avant-garde home movie, an 8mm short titled Juliet. It consisted of alternating montage images of Man Ray shot by Browner and of Browner shot by Man Ray in their home of Villa Elaine, Los Angeles. “I had a woman, a studio, a car,” the artist would later blissfully recall. He was happy.
