I get it — it’s strikingly evocative! Obviously Duchamp worked on Étant donnés over a number of years, but knowing it’s dated from 1946 (and Short was murdered in 1947) sends my brain into overdrive. There are similar characteristics, plus given Hodel’s interests....maybe I’ll write a part two essay xx

Do you think Duchamp’s ‘Étant donnés’ owes anything to Short? It’s always made me think of her and I’m not entirely sure why.
